Sonic Frontiers

Sonic Frontiers takes the blue hedgehog somewhere genuinely different — sprawling open landscapes replacing the familiar corridor-style stages of older entries in the series. Stranded on the Starfall Islands after a mysterious incident scatters his friends, Sonic must piece together what happened while navigating a world that mixes ancient ruins with strange mechanical threats.

Movement is the core of everything here. Speed builds naturally as you cross wide terrain, launching off ramps, grinding rails, and bouncing between combat arenas suspended high above the ground. Enemies are larger and more structured than typical Sonic foes, requiring specific attack patterns rather than just a well-timed jump.

Scattered across each island are puzzles, collectibles, and Cyber Space stages — shorter, more traditional Sonic levels that break up the open exploration. Chaos Emeralds unlock as you complete objectives, gradually giving Sonic access to more powerful abilities. The pacing shifts between quiet exploration and intense boss encounters in a way that keeps things from feeling repetitive.
