Space Invaders

Few arcade games carry the legacy of Space Invaders. Rows of alien creatures descend in lockstep toward Earth, and your lone cannon is all that stands between them and the surface. The tension comes not from complexity but from inevitability — they always keep moving down.

Shooting through the waves feels methodical at first, almost calm. Then the remaining invaders speed up, their movements tightening into something frantic, and suddenly every shot counts. The four crumbling barriers offer brief cover, but they erode under fire from both sides, leaving you increasingly exposed as the screen thins out.

Chasing a high score adds a quiet obsession to each run. Missing a cluster when you had a clean shot, or letting one alien slip past the bottom edge — those small failures stick with you. The game rewards patience and punishes panic, which is exactly why it has held up for decades.
